Essay writing service

I finished university 3 years ago and have pursued a career in the field that I studied in. Within those 3 years as part of our registration we have to go back to university to complete a further module. Life is so chaotic with a child with a disability and a toddler as well as working full time. I reached out to an essay writing company and paid them money. They sent me an essay which I have not submitted to the university. Now I am being blackmailed and got scammed for £500 yesterday. They are threatening to tell my university and end my career. I am so annoyed at myself for allowing this to happen. I have worked so hard for my career to end up doing something so silly towards the end. My mood has been so low the past few days and I am worried sick. Can anyone give me any advice? Can I be punished even if I have not submitted the essay they give me?

If the work youve submitted to the uni is your own, theres nothing the university can/will do. Its up to you how you spend your money. But report it to the police if youre being blackmailed.

Thanks for responding. I think I will take this to the police as they were blackmailing me today saying the IP software for the copyright certificates ran into an error and they needed another £700 to get this secured and all money would be refunded. When I wouldn’t pay anything they started threatening me stating I’ll know all about when the university contacts me etc

Count yourself lucky they jumped the gun and tried to blackmail you before you used the work. All you're losing is money and sleep.

I think if that situation persists, we should report it to the police in case we encounter any problems that directly affect our private lives.

There is nothing “illegal” about reading an essay or requesting/paying someone to write an essay for you. What is unethical/against uni regulations is if you submit someone else’s work and claim it is yours. IMO you’ve done nothing wrong so far. Don’t pay the company any money and just put it down to an expensive lesson learnt. I wouldn’t talk to your uni about it, just pretend you know nothing about it all. Did you even tell the scammer’s which uni you are at?

I can’t even imagine how overwhelming things must have been for you. Juggling work, studies, and parenting, especially with everything else going on. That’s so much for anyone to handle. But the fact that you didn’t submit the essay shows you still held onto your integrity, even in a really tough moment. I truly hope you didn’t send them any more money and that this situation has been resolved by now, especially since you posted this 8 months ago.
