Edexcel IGCSE English

I have a mock exam in English both lit and lang and I’m starting revision
What’s the best way to revise for it?

I’m predicted a grade 9 and am trying to apply to a new school for sixth form next year how do I make sure I get this grade???

Also I really want to study English lit next year in sixth form so how can I revise to get the grade I need for this

Thanks for all your help
Just give me any tips you can

hii, im in the same boat as you: predicted grade 9, mock soon, not sure how to revise.
what ive been told is to just do timed past papers in exam conditions and make sure that you know the texts (i do only paper 1 language and paper 1 literature cause of coursework)

Hi! I did my IGCSE Edexcel English Language last year and got a 9.
TBH, compared to lots of my friends I did not revise that much.. I only did a few practice papers and annotations from Mrs Rumsey on YT (who I HIGHLY recommend for BOTH Language and Literature).

Some important things you should know for the English Language Exam:

Know is what the question is exactly asking you, and making sure you answer the point (and NOT waffle on). For the first few questions in P1 Q1-3, only answer as much as needed, don't spend extra time on those questions- you should finish Q1-3 within 10-15 mins or less.

In P1 Q4, they ask you for language and structure so make sure you talk about BOTH. Not only one of them, both- even if you can only find one point for structure and lots for language, talk about that one point for structure!

For the P1 Q5, make sure when you compare you talk about BOTH similar and different things about the two texts. I know that a few people in my school missed out on a lot of marks (in their mocks thankfully) because they only talked about the different.

I'm not sure if you are doing the P2 for English Language or the coursework but I'll just post advice for the P2 since that is what I did just in case you are doing it:

For P2 Q1, talk about all the bullet points in much depth as possible. I think I dedicated around 45-50 mins to this question since it is 30 marks from what I remember, but just say as much as you can. I recommend around 5-6 paragraphs personally, though I know more people who did more.

For the transactional in P1, make sure you write in the style that is given to you, and make the tone appropriate.
The imaginative story in P2, try to make a short but interesting story by using lots of figurative language. Or, if you don't think you can brainstorm in the exam, what a lot of my friends did was brainstorm one or two stories (before the exam) and memorize them. Then, they'd adjust the story so that it fit one of the given prompts. Personally, I didn't think it was a great idea but most of them were able to do this for the actual exam with success, so I was proven wrong lol.

I'll be doing the iGCSE English Literature exam this year, so unfortunately I can't give too much advice, although if you have coursework, I'd be happy to give you advice. I've been helping lots of people in school (and outside) with their coursework for the Drama component (A View From the Bridge OR An Inspector Calls) so I do not mind at all to help out 😁😁

Good luck for your mock exam!!

Yes. Regional (R) papers -from what I remember, someone correct me if I'm wrong- is for people who do the GCSE outside of the UK

i do edexcel igcse language and its the subject i struggle with most (tbh that means 8s instead of 9s 😭)

what i’ve done for all the texts is plan 3 points for 12 mark questions, each point having 3 quotes and 1 structural feature. thats how i consistently get 12/12 on them.

for q1-3 i aim to do them in 10 minutes so that i have time to plan the 22 mark. i don’t have much advice for 22 bc they’re what i struggle with the most

for section b i always visualise myself being the type of person who would write that type of speech leaflet etc. like for example if its a speech about whether governments should do more about climate change i would imagine myself being an angry climate activist or something 😭 also add something which shows u understand the format eg. for speeches write “thank you for listening” or in a leaflet put “we hope to see you soon contact us at …”
