I am completing a research project on learning disabilities and people's perceptions of them, I have a short survey I need to gather responses for and am immensely struggling. Hi i completed this but would like to just point something out to you which is that autism isnt a learning disability. People on the spectrum can have a learning disability but it is not always a part of the condition. With the question on receiving medical care from someone with a learning disability, it really depends because if the person is fully qualified and able to work in the role I wouldn’t have an issue with it- some autistic people for example are able to work fully in a role with their challenges not having too much of an impact on their interactions and ability to fulfil the role. However if someone with a more severe impairment who was for example unable to process information accurately (which i do not blame them for but as someone who knows several people with learning disabilities) then I wouldn’t feel confident in their care because they wouldn’t be suited to the role. Does that make sense? Sorry i just didnt feel the form allowed me to accurately express this 🙂
