As I know for those of you studying at Kingston reading week is soon approaching (and I am ready for it!!). It’s nice to have some time off from classes and so to help you make the most of this free time I thought I would share some ideas of things to do in London.
One of my favourite things to do in my free time is going second hand shopping. Personally I don’t think the charity shops in Kingston are the best but in the neighbouring towns New Malden and Surbiton I have found trips there very successful. I also enjoy going to Portobello Road Market in Notting Hill. The brand ‘we are. preloved fashion’ is holding pop ups in Notting Hill tomorrow and Westfield next Friday, you can find more information about these on Eventbrite and on their Instagram @wearesecondlifefashion.
One of my favourite things about living in London is the amount of galleries and exhibitions there is. I think many people can agree, one of my fellow reps on The Student Room did a great post recently about this Galleries and exhibitions to visit now! - The Student Room . Here is a list of a few exhibitions happening over the next week that I recommend:
Sophie Tea Art Gallery – You may have seen her work all over TikTok, now she has an immersive exhibition in Soho which is completely free!
Naomi – At the V&A, such an amazing collection of garments!
Anthony McCALL: SOLID LIGHT – This is one of the most immersive exhibitions I have been to.
Barbie Exhibition and The World of TimBurton – I have been waiting for these to be on at the same time so I can go to both and from tomorrow they will both be at the Design Museum.
On the last Friday of every month Tate Modern hold the Tate Late where you can visit the gallery and exhibitions late into the night. Plus there is a DJ, drinks and food. Such a fun way to spend time with friends, plus a chance to go to the Anthony McCall exhibition.
Surprisingly the weather has been nice this past week and so hopefully stays the same for reading week. Outdoor spaces could be something to consider such as Bushy Park, Richmond Park, Wimbledon and Putney Commons are all free to visit. Kew Gardens is also a great day out, although tickets required. And of course, spending time by the Thames is always lovely.
There will also be a range of events across Kingston:
There's a Halloween party at Knights park bar on Wednesday 30th October 6:30pm till 9pm, so perfect for pres.
KUextra is the best place to find events for Kingston students, next week there are events such as Halloween part at Pryzm, Pilates, Pumkin Carving and more. Home Kingston University
Maybe, like me, your also need to take this time to work on projects and assignments. Why not go to a café in Kingston or one of the towns near by to make it more of a treat. Exploring the local area while studying 😊
I hope this gives you some inspiration for next week, weekends or your days off!
