A-Level Choices

I think I’d like to do a psychology degree at university. I want to pursue research and neuroscience after that (advice on that welcome).

I think I want to do biology, psychology and English Literature at A-Level, but am unsure whether this would go well in university applications. Any advice?

Psychology degree usually require one, but more often two sciences. Psychology in this case counts as a science, and you’d be taking biology, so you are good there! Whilst maths would probably be a good subject to take, psychology is a very essay based degree, so having English would actually be very helpful and show you have good essay skills. Plus, Psychology often involves analysing different experiences and perspectives, which I think English Literature would be very useful for. So, in my opinion, I think this combo is good.

Honestly think this is a perfect combo (two sciences + a difficult essay subject) and will pretty much get you anywhere for a psychology degree

Hi @Alexis1200 !

Here at Edge Hill, psychology is offered with any A-level subjects being accepted! This combination of subjects sound perfect for what you want to pursue in the future.

Psychology at Edge Hill is taught by published tutors and offers internships/volunteering opportunities for students. This course would be a great start into what you are interested in!

If you have any questions, I would be happy to help. 😄

Hi! I'm in my third year of studying psychology at York St. John. I also took biology and psychology, as well as computer science.
I found that taking psychology at A-Level was really advantageous, as it covered the foundations of psychology, the basics of neuroanatomy, and research methods, which in first year was a blessing to have! It made that jump from A-Level to university a lot less overwhelming! Going into my third-year now, I still find myself referring to what I learnt in A-Level biology too, areas such as hormones, the circulatory system, and the brain, come up a lot in neuroanatomy. I think these A-Levels will help you a lot in your degree🤗

Hope this helps😊
