Coventry University Accommodation

I’m going to attend Coventry University this coming January. I’m having difficulties booking accommodation and would prefer to live near the campus as it will be my first year. I also plan to work part-time in Coventry, and from what I know, most part-time jobs are located in the city center.

I’ve narrowed down my options to two: Canvas Arundel House and iQ Weaver Place.

I love the facilities at iQ Weaver, but it’s about a 20-30 minute walk from the university. Could you please give me some suggestions? This is my first time choosing university accommodation 😭 @Coventry University Student Ambassadors @Bones McCoy

Hello Leyie,

Here's a breakdown to help you decide between Canvas Arundel House and iQ Weaver Place:

1. Canvas Arundel House

Proximity to Campus: Located closer to Coventry University, this option might be more convenient for your daily commute to classes, especially during the colder months or when you have early lectures.

Facilities: Canvas accommodations generally offer modern amenities, including study spaces, communal areas, and good security. Since it’s closer to campus, you’ll likely find it easier to meet other first-year students, which is great for socializing and making friends.

Work Accessibility: Being closer to the city center might make it easier for you to access part-time jobs without a long commute.

2. iQ Weaver Place

Proximity: A 20–30-minute walk from campus can feel a bit long, especially during bad weather, but it’s manageable if you don’t mind the exercise or can budget for occasional bus rides.

Facilities: If you’re in love with the facilities here, that’s a huge plus. iQ accommodations are known for their high-quality living spaces, and you might find the extra comfort worth the longer commute.

Work Accessibility: Since it’s still relatively close to the city center, finding part-time work won’t be a problem, though living closer might save you some time.

Suggestions:

Prioritize proximity for your first year: Being near campus can make your first-year transition smoother. It’s easier to attend social events, meet friends, and participate in university activities. Canvas Arundel House seems more convenient in this respect.

Balance budget and preferences: If the cost difference isn’t too significant and you prefer better facilities, iQ Weaver Place is still a good option. Consider if the extra time spent commuting is worth the facilities you’d get.

Check for room availability and flexibility: Sometimes room availability might be the deciding factor. Contact both accommodations to confirm availability and ask about cancellation policies if needed.

Tips for Your First Year:

Join online forums or student groups: Platforms like Facebook or WhatsApp often have groups for Coventry University students, where you can ask about personal experiences at both accommodations.

Explore virtual tours: If you haven’t already, see if either option offers virtual tours to get a better sense of the spaces.

Stay connected to campus events: If you choose iQ Weaver Place, make an effort to engage in campus life despite the distance—it’s a great way to make friends and feel involved.

Ultimately, both options seem fantastic, so you can't go wrong. If convenience is your priority, Canvas Arundel House might be your best bet. Good luck, and enjoy your time at Coventry! 🎓

Hope this helps.

Thanks & Regards
