Mature Student SFE Integrated Masters / Joint Honours STEM

Hello

I was wondering if anyone out here would be able to advise me on SFE?

Years ago I started a degree in the humanities and had (many) unfortunate life events which meant I ended up retaking years and then eventually withdrawing without a degree. I didn't even get my year two credits as I only completed half the year, but obviously used up a whole year of SFE, twice I think. I do have a CertHE though. I was very frustrated with myself, but it was 100% the right decision for my health at the time.

I worked for years in the creative industries but it never felt right and in the past couple of years I re-found a love for science. Fast forward to now and I'm studying an Access course in science and - hoping - to be able to go to university again.

My question is this: On the Gov website it says that limited funding can be available for second degrees either part time STEM, integrated Masters or joint honours. I understand this is deliberately vague and I have done extensive research but I just can't seem to get to the bottom of what SFE would fund. I am looking at applying for either of these degrees:
MSci in Cellular and Molecular Medicine or MSci Biochemistry with Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (Both at Bristol)
OR
BSc Biological and Medicinal Chemistry (Exeter)

Would any of these be eligible for additional funding? If not, is there someone at SFE I could speak to regarding what degrees are eligible? I would only be looking at Tuition Fees as I work at the moment.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi there,

Are both of these courses classed as full-time, do you know?

Thanks, Graeme

Hi franks244,

If these are full time courses then they will not be exempt from previous study. If you have 2 years of previous study before your current course you will either need to self fund the 1st year of the new course or send Compelling Personal Reasons evidence about why you couldn't continue with a year of previous study for reasons outside your control.

Thanks,
Calum
