English lit submitted work Oxford

Hi,
So I'm meant to be submitting English literature work for the course at Oxford and I was going to use an essay I recently wrote for homework comparing Jane Eyre and Sense and Sensibility. The thing is for my exam board , OCR this type of essay doesn't involve any AO2 ( close literary analysis of words and their effects. )On the English faculty website for Oxford , one of the criteria for marking is "sensitivity to the creative use of language" which I obviously haven't done because it's not assessed in this kind of essay. If I explain the assesment objectives in the cover sheet do you think it will be ok or should I write something new?
Heyy, so I applied to English at Oxford last year and also did the OCR exam board for my English lit A-level. I did send in one of the paper 2 essays without any AO2 and received a place but I would not tell you whether that specific essay hindered me in any way at all or whether didn't matter in the slightest. Basically I can't tell you whether it would be better or not to send in an essay with language analysis, but I can tell you that I didn't and still got in!

Thank you. I guess I'm just worried cause there's no ELAT this year so the only written work they see is my submitted. Do you know how much emphasis is placed on submitted work opposed to everything else like GCSEs and predicteds?I have a competition essay I wrote that balances all the assesment objectives. I emailed the college about that and they said I could send it instead, so I might do that. I read the advice on the Faculty of English again and it said they were "most interested in seeing your engagement with the literary qualities of texts " , which im interpreting as AO2 but because my competition essay isn't written for an exam mark scheme i worry it's too unorthodox?
Oxford do not care about exam mark schemes or A level criteria so if you feel the competition essay illustrates your skills most strongly, send that in.

Equally, assessors will be aware that different pieces of work are trying to do different things and will mark them on their own merits. Just as they would not expect a timed piece to be the same as a vacation essay. If the piece of coursework is a great example of its type, they will read it in light of whether it is successful in what it sets out to achieve.

Don’t write something new, though, they want to see original work, not something made up for Oxford admissions.

Yeah I’m submitting a Hamlet OCR section B, I’m ngl I think it’ll be fine. If it’s the essay you’re most proud of then submit it. I’d imagine those non-A02 essays are going to be most similar to what we’d be doing on the English Course at Oxford, especially if not going down the language route. Moreover, if you get to interview they’ll be able to gauge that ability from the poetry/extract discussion?? Let me know how you get on brother

Hi, I have also applied for English at Oxford this year. I am just wondering, if you don't mind me asking, what grade was the work you sent in?

It was an essay I wrote as revision and my teacher did mark it and add comments but didn't give it a grade. Like someone wrote earlier on the thread Oxford really don't care about the mark schemes that your essay was written for so the grade doesn't really matter as long as its a good bit of writing with something interesting to say

I also didn't have an Elat because they cancelled it after we'd written it meaning I didn't have any A02 either so I really wouldn't worry. If you think you're competition essay shows off your skills more then go with that but as long as your A-level essay is good I wouldn't worry too much about the technicalities. Like I wrote earlier in the thread they really don't care about adherence to a mark scheme they just want to see your ideas and writing ability. Essentially pick which one you're more proud of.
