Hiya!

It's great to hear that you are interested to study Mental Health Nursing! 😃

In these programs, most placements focus on mental health services, though they’re not all limited to traditional mental health settings. Placements are specifically designed to give Mental Health Nursing students broad exposure to both clinical and community-based aspects of mental health care. This approach helps students gain valuable experience across different populations, levels of care, and treatment options. For example, you might have placement opportunities in areas like Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), community mental health teams, or even GP clinics.

To learn more about placement details, check the course website for the university you're interested in—most universities will provide some information about placements. Additionally, you can reach out directly to the university for more details, whether through contact information listed online or by attending an open day, where you can connect with current students and faculty to ask questions in person.

I hope this has helped 🤗

Yes they are but cover a wide veriety. Iv just started third year and had an older adults residential home for functioning mental health (a bit like a care home for older adults who mostly had bipolar/scizophrenia) acute adult inpatient, community mentsl health team, initial response service (a triage service for any mental health referals to triage if they need further imput, secondary service or gps can support) and im about to start with mental health liasion in A&E.

Friends have had perinatal, crisis team, older adults mh team, camhs, adolescent inpatient, dementia ward, care homes, early intervention service (psychosis) and forensic inpatient.

So theres a wide variety you can be given.

Hi there 👋,

Every university is different, so it is worth checking with your university for more information, however here at Wrexham University, all Mental Health Nursing students are placed in Mental Health specific placements. So you can gain experience significantly in a more specific setting.

However, you can apply for a placement in your second year, where you choose a placement that can be non-mental health nursing related!

Hope this helps, and good luck with your studies, feel free to ask any questions or queries!
