What happens to my postgrad loan if I drop out of university now?

Hi, I'm a postgrad student and I have received the first half of my postgrad finance, I haven't paid the university yet (direct debit set for November) but l've paid 2 months rent. Anyway I don't think I can carry on with this course due to unforeseen personal reasons and also having to work I wont be able to keep up or at least turn in any decent assignments.

My question is what happens to loans I’ve already received if I drop out now before the first term ? Will I have to pay it all back immediately? I have read a few forums on Reddit regarding undergrad saying if you complete the first term then you will not have to pay it back immediately. I don’t know if this refers to postgrad as well. Has anyone been in this situation before? please help

Hi 99studentofchi,

If you have received a postgraduate loan this won't be classed as an overpayment if you withdraw as this works differently at postgraduate level.

Thanks,
Calum
