Home office pre employment checks

Hi

Moving from CS to home office. I received a provisional offer and I received an email today asking for my line managers details ( I haven't even done my security questionnaire as of yet) just wondering if this is normal ? As I haven't spoken to my current TL as she has been away on AL and don't really want to be giving out her details, when I emailed back asking why they replied back saying it's

We ask for these details to confirm your eligibility for the role, we ask for Line manger details so we can confirm your responses with your line manager it is not for reference purposes.

I havent heard of this before and wondering if someone can please help me

This is completely normal to be asked for those details as part of the background checks. You could always send them a polite email to say that your LM is away and you'd like to discuss it first with them before sharing their details. If they want you they will wait for this information. Good luck

No but I know of people who have had this done in the Home Office and worked in other gov departments where this has happened so it is not uncommon practice.

That sounds strange, there should be some confidentiality. How on earth managers will confirm eligibility. You lose count of managers in civil services
