A-Levels journey! As a private candidate retaking biology and chemistry

Hi all!

Just wanted to mention that I currently have a thread running for anyone taking their A-Levels in 2025 like I am, whether Year 13 or older like me!
It's called 'first post! journey as a medicine applicant + retake student  #medicine' if anyone is interested in following along
How are you going to be assessed for the practical component?

Are you resitting in order to apply for Medicine in the future? Bear in mind that the NHS is not a nice environment in which to work in as a doctor, and for much of your career you won't even have a choice as to where you will be working. The pay isn't anywhere near as much as in the USA, or even in Australia. So you are left with a very prestigious degree and job title, but not the career you might have thought you were getting yourself in for.

I personally rate MPharm as a better course than Medicine, although Hospital Medicine is a much more rewarding career over working in a shop.

Hi, I already passed my practical endorsement for both biology and chemistry this year, so I don't have to do it again next year.

Also thank you for your message. I don't think I can say I truly know the pressures of a hospital, because I don't, I'm only a student, and medicine cannot be sugarcoated as you say. My reason to continue pursuing medicine is because I have come so far with all my research and commitment into the degree, and despite getting 0 interviews and 0 offers in my first application cycle surrounded by what seemed like everyone else getting straight offers while I was in school, as well as missed grades to even reapply, I'm still going for it. And I really don't mean to sound big-headed when I say this, but I'm not sure a lot of people would sacrifice a year of their education career to be left at home while their friends are in uni, to resit 2 of the hardest A-Levels, and apply to the same course that only came with no's the first time round. I'm taking that as a sign that this course is for me, this is completely my decision and if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I'm only human after all, we make mistakes, I'll take it as a learning curve, and hopefully pursue something healthcare related if it turns out medicine isn't for me. There's no rush into anything since I'm only 18, but I think I'm going along the right path. But again I do really appreciate your comment, can I ask are you a current practitioner for the NHS? What speciality have you chosen, and do you perhaps wish you went down another route? Thank you!

Just here to wish you good luck!!!
As a private candidate do you sit the exam at your house or is it somewhere else like your nearest school?

Hey! So by private candidate, I mean I don't attend my school anymore and I am revising at home.
I am fortunate enough that my old school allow resits, so I am sitting my exams at my old sixth form next June, but it's 'privately' as I am external and no longer part of the school 🙂

I'm going back to my old college to sit my exams!
I'm only considered private as it's no longer my school but my test centre 🙂
