I want to do therapeutic radiography

Hi, I’m really interested in doing therapeutic radiography degree. I am a little reluctant as I am a single mum and haven’t been in that “learning space” for quite some time, and science isn’t really my strongest suit. I did BTECH science for my GCSEs. Am I too dumb for it? :/

Is there a lot of physics involved? I was thinking to do an access to HE course in allied health.

You need to check the entry requirements for the course on uni websites as you will need to satisfy both the Access course and GCSE requirements. You also need to ensure that the Access course you study is in an acceptable subject and includes the required modules. For example:

Liverpool
Essential: 45 credits at Level 3 (all should be new learning, ie. GCSE awards cannot be APL’d against the Diploma). 30 credits passed at distinction (which must include a minimum of 15 credits in modules relating to Biology, Maths and Physics). The remaining 15 credits must be passed at merit or higher. 5 GCSE subjects graded A*-C and must include: English Language, Mathematics and Science

Hertfordshire
Science or Health Studies (or similar) to include: 45 credits at level 3 of which 24 credits are Distinction including 9 credits from a Science subject and 21 credits are Merit. Access diploma must include Physics and/or Chemistry and/or Biology units.
Additional requirements: GCSE: Grade 4/C in English Language, Mathematics and Science.

My DD didn't take A level physics, but has found the physics content of the course to be manageable. It is a great career option and TRs have better shift patterns than a lot of other healthcare workers.

Check your chosen unis requirements as you don't want to waste your time applying while not meeting the basic criteria. I'm also a mum and I am almost finished with my access course, it's definitely doable and an Access course is a great way to get back into education. I'm also looking at therapeutic radiography if I don't get in my first choice as it's such a rewarding career.
