Sixth Form Applications (help)

I am currently doing my GCSEs in year 11 now.I did my mock exams at the end of year 10 and my results were average but not what I was hoping for.My predicted grades for my subjects mostly range from 4s-6s even though I feel like I will do so much better in my actual GCSE exams as I’m aiming for grade 8s and 9s. Anyway, there is a sixth form I really want to go to and it is highly competitive as it’s a good school however, I fear that I might not get in as people will have better predicted grades than me and that is what the application form is based on. For people that are already in sixth form, is your acceptance truly based on predicted grades or are there other factors later on that can contribute? Overall I just really hope I get accepted when I apply.
to be honest, it all depends on how competitive the college is. for instance, for mine , i had to get a minimum grade average of 7.5, including like a 6 in maths and english language + all the subjects i wanted to study . my predicted grades surpassed that, so i got an offer, and i also got the grades i needed at gcse, so im currently there now [yr13].

the truth is, if your predicted grades are bad, or do not meet the college's requirements, you probably wont get in at this stage. however, multiple 6th forms have an opportunity to reapply on results day, but you would need to get pretty good results in order to be accepted.

not in a rude way at all, but is there a reason you feel you didn't deserve the 4s and 6s you were predicted? i hate to sound condescending, but unless there was a mistake, but theres quite a big discrepancy between those grades at top 8/9 grades, especially if those are your predicted and even not your operational. you can certainly turn it around and get those top grades if you work really hard.

Thank you for your response. To answer your question, I know it’s a big jump from 8s and 9s (correction my predicted grades were 5s - 7s, still a jump). For those mocks I did, I didn’t really revise and had no preparation. Not to make any excuses, I usually do really well in class with my tests and usually get high grades. I think the reason my predicted grades were low is because of the lack of revision I had and the fact that it’s highly based on mock results. I also want to know if your sixth form is purely based on mock predictions or if there are other factors that matter if you get accepted or not?

Firstly, 4s and 5s are good grades. It means you will pass. Only aim for higher GCSE grades for the 3 subjects you want to take for ALevel. In this case, you should aim for at least grade 6.
If you do not plan on taking Maths or English for Alevel only aim for grade 4 in these, as both sixth forms and universities will only be looking for a pass in these subjects.
