What unis need Futher Maths for Computer science?

I am thinking of applying to Imperial, Bath, Southampton maybe Warwick then Leicester as a back up. My predicteds are A*A*AB in Maths, Physics, Computer Science and Chemistry. I've heard from people than some top Russel group unis won't even look at your application if you don't do Futher Maths as the Computer science course is so competitive. I was wondering wether to switch my option from Imperial or Bath to another uni which won't mind me not doing Futher Maths to have a better chance of getting in.

It's pretty much only Oxbridge and Imperial where it'll be pretty much impossible to get into CS without FM. You'll be fine for Bath etc.

Thanks for the reply, Do you think UCL would have the same situation with imperial or Oxbridge or would they be more lenient on not having Futher Maths? - Since I might try change my option from Imperial to UCL

they would be more lenient as it's less competitive (still fairly competitive, but not hyper-competitive like imperial/oxbridge). You'd defo have a good chance at UCL.

UCL would be more lenient than Imperial but not by much. I know people last year who had 4A* predicted incl Further Maths who were rejected from UCL CS. Looking at offer rates, the offer rate for CS at Imperial was 6% in 2023, for UCL it was 11%.....

Hi there,

Fab to hear you're considering Bath as one of your choices - great choice 🤟

As imp1 has said, although our Computer Science course is competitive, we do not require further maths to study it. The fact that you have Maths, Physics and CS will equip you with a high level of mathematical ability which will set you up well to study it. You also have a fabulous set of predicted grades 🙂

We look a variety of factors when considering your applications, which includes not only subject combos, grades but also your context, your extracurriculars and other things in your personal statement. So as long as you do the very best you can with those A Levels, get as much support with that PS as possible to make it as strong as possible (guidance from us here!) then you have a great chance of making a competitive application.

I hope this helps and best of luck with choosing your uni!

Hi @Tazan01
It is great that you are reaching out to the TSR community for some help!
I'm thrilled to hear you are considering Leicester to study computer science. If you haven't come to explore our campus yet you still have a chance to come visit us this Saturday (9th) for our last in person Open Day of the year. You can still book here and make sure to check out our travel support and discounts to help you get to our campus.

As for our entry requirements, we don't ask for Further Maths! We actually have a reduced entry requirement if you study an EPQ and achieve a grade B or higher and we're really proud to also offer contextual offers. You can check if you're eligible through our website.

Check out this video of Cameron, who is one of our current students studying Computer Science here at Leicester.

Best of luck with your research and application submissions!

Hello,

Would you consider York? We're Russel Group and don't require further maths for computer science. If you're interested our full entry requirements are at the bottom of the computer science page. Good luck where ever you go 🙂
