UCAS - childrens nursing

Hi I’m currently studying the T-Level in Supporting the Adult Nursing team and applying for Children’s Nursing. I have my ten week placement block coming up and I’ve spoken about this oh my personal statement which is ready to send to universities.
My issue is the placement is split 50/50 with 5 weeks on a Paediatric Ward and then another 5 weeks on a Gastro Ward however I don’t start my gastro placement until January so would it best to wait until January to submit my application to Universities so if they contact the Wards the Gastro Ward will have something to say rather than not knowing who I am and If I do wait will I have a lesser chance of getting places on a Children’s Nursing Course?!

The reference on your UCAS application is an academic reference and should be completed by your course tutor or similar. Your referee has to add the reference before your application is submitted to UCAS. Unis won't contact your placements directly for a reference. If you apply by the January deadline, you will have as much chance of receiving an offer as if you applied now.

Hi,

I'm currently a 2nd year childrens nurse at Wrexham University, through my experiences so far I have found the course has been amazing.

On the university side of things, you will find that you need to complete 2300 hours of both theory and placement hours respectfully. This flies by - especially on placements!

In terms of day-to-day responsibilities this will vary from each university and placement area alongside your year of practice and type of nursing. For example, last year I completed observations, documentation, attended with staff to A&E, and went to watch an operation in theatre. All of these have been amazing experiences and allowed for a professional relationship to be built with the patients and their families. It's amazing to be a part of a childs journey through their time in hospital or in the community.

Whilst there are emotional times I found that the universities and the local healthboards support teams have been amazing. Additionally, by having de-stresses such as arts and crafts as well as playing games I have been able to relax following stressful shifts, which hopefully you'll be able to do to!

In terms of applying for the course this will vary depending on if you apply via UCAS or by the university itself, you will most likely recievce an offer for an interview before recieving your conditional offer. Feel free to ask any more questions you may have and good luck out there!
