Funding for pre-reg SLT MSc, with prev funding for BA and Nursing PgDip

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could advise on whether I’d be eligible for any funding based on my circumstances? I am considering moving from nursing (I’ve been a registered nurse for 5 years) into speech and language therapy but would need to undertake a pre-reg MSc. I have completed and had funding for these courses previously-

1. Undergraduate tuition and maintenance loan for a Linguistics degree (2009-2013)- I am still paying this off.

2. Pre-reg Adult Nursing PgDip funded 2017-2019 (no loan taken out, I received a bursary for living costs and tuition fees were funded)

Would I be eligible for a second undergrad loan? Or maybe a postgraduate loan? Or nothing at all? I’m assuming it would be nothing but want to do my research first! Thanks

Hi there,

Can you confirm what university you want to attend and when the course would start? What is the full name of the course and the course duration?

Thanks, Drew

Hello,
Thanks for your reply. It would most likely be a September 2026 start. The courses I am looking at are all called MSc Speech and Language Therapy (pre-reg) either at City University London or University College London. They are full time courses that last for two years.

Thanks very much,
Daisy

Hi there, Speech and Language Therapy (MSc) (pre-registration) is an exception course as long as you're not already registered in this field. You would also apply on an undergraduate application as this course attracts undergraduate funding. Thanks, Jason

Dear Jason,
Thank you for confirming this. Would I still be eligible given that I have already been funded to study a healthcare course (PgDip Nursing) 7 years ago?
Thanks again for your advice,
Daisy

This should be fine as it's a different field. We do always advise making an application as the assessors will review this accordingly. If it's for a course beginning in September 2025 then these will go live in the spring of next year. Thanks, Jason
