This one doesn't need to go to the Conduct Committee because it's a custodial sentence so it automatically triggers the recall petition unless there's an appeal.
Only one recall petition has ever failed and that was in a Northern Irish seat so I'd be surprised if we don't have a by-election, which'll be closely contested by Labour and Reform.

That’s fair. Thanks for the clarification.

His lawyer did indicate an appeal would be made, but on the surface it doesn't seem it will be taken seriously. He was caught on camera, he admitted the offence and the sentence falls within the sentencing guidelines. I'd guess that any attempt to reduced the category of sentence would run into the facts that he was the sole attacker, attacked without reasonable provocation and kept trying to get the guy on the ground.

Apparently they were so sure of getting special treatment he didn't even bring a bag for prison, arrogance in the extreme. They seemed very shocked that sentencing was in fact the part where you go to prison 😅

Shock horror. Ends up getting the same sentence as any one else. 10 weeks suspended.

As expected. Starmer does not want a bye-election

I don't see what it has to do with Starmer? Amesbury has already been kicked out the Labour party and told he won't be allowed back and he is still facing the same basically inevitable recall petition. Suspending his prison sentence doesn't change anything here, it still counts as a prison sentence.

Amesbury not being part of the Labour Party does not mean that he cannot vote as expected. It is politics; MPs get kicked out of the party.

I am not sure whether the recall petition would hold but let’s see.

Labour have a majority of 170-odd. How Amesbury votes is utterly irrelevant.

For specific votes, the relevance can matter. My fundamental point is about the bye-election. Let’s see how it evolves.
