Am I gonna get any offers? - HELP

I’ve applied to Durham, Nottingham, Surrey and Newcastle for Accounting and Finance (or similar) with predicted grades of ABB in Maths, Business and Comp Sci respectively

I’m eligible for contextual offers which are:

Durham: BBB
Nottingham: ABB
Surrey: BBB
Newcastle: BBC

I’m worried I’ve been too aspirational and I won’t actually get any offers.

My GCSEs were very poor at 765555554

I think my personal statement is relatively strong (I’m happy to send to anybody if you want to see). I have a fair bit of work experience but my grades aren’t great.

My application hasn’t fully been sent off though yet. It is with my school awaiting full approval.

Am I screwed?

Nobody on here can tell you whether you will or won’t get offers from these universities. So long as your GCSEs meet the minimum requirements, you shouldn’t be at a disadvantage with a strong personal statement and predicted grades that exceed the minimum requirements. You aren’t “screwed”, but only the universities themselves can tell you whether or not you’d receive an offer, which you only find out by applying. Other than that, your choices seem appropriate and suited to your grades.

Thank you, yes that makes sense. Could I possibly send you my personal statement for any feedback? Thank you

I’m only an applicant myself and I have no experience with accounting and finance, so I wouldn’t be able to give you any meaningful feedback unfortunately (I applied for law). Different universities are looking for specific things, meaning everyone’s personal statement in theory should/will be tailored to the universities they’ve applied to. This could be a starting point for you if you’re struggling with your personal statement to make sure that you’re including everything that your choices want to see.

No worries, yeah I’m looking at individual universities and their guides to ps. Thanks

ur doing accounting and finance at durham gcses dont matter even though those gcses are fine but the ABB is the thing i would be worried about, try asking ur teachers if they can bump up ur predicteds
Source: I have a friend who works as an accountant who did exactly this.

Even if you recieved no offers for accountancy at any University, it may be worth writing to local medium and large sized accountancy companies to see if they would consider hiring you as a trainee. Some companies will finance you training through to graduate level as an apprentice of sorts and you would do so whilst being paid. Well worth enquiring about locally.
