if it was really obvious i think the friends would be smiling when there wasn't really much to be smiling about, maybe be checking what the actual crush is doing by glancing at her and you to see the dynamic

if it was less obvious i can only think of something like if the friend was not talking much in the conversation to let the main girl (your crush) talk. because if the crush liked you, the friend wouldn't want to get in their way when they were talking to you

sometimes friends would make an excuse to leave too, so it could be just you too on your own. that's like a 'code' for girls and guys if they know that their friend likes the person they're talking to, so they don't interfere

Alright, here’s the lowdown on your crush’s friends acting like they’re in a badly directed rom-com:
First off, we’ve got the Eyebrow Olympics. Their brows are doing more flips and tricks than an Olympic gymnast. Subtle as a brick.
Next, enter the Nudge Brigade. Every time you stroll by, it’s like watching a human domino effect. One nudges the other, who nudges your crush, who’s suddenly very interested in their shoes.
Then there’s Chatterbox Syndrome. These friends turn into auctioneers, yammering about you faster than you can blink. “Hey, did you know [your name] loves dogs? Oh, and they’re amazing at cooking, and their favorite movie is—” Dude, take a breath!
And don’t forget Spill the Beans. There’s always that one friend who blurts out, “Oh, you mean [your name] who [crush’s name] totally likes?” Cue the awkward silence and someone pretending to care about the weather.
Finally, we have Sudden Disappearances. The moment you show up, they’ve got “somewhere else” to be. “Oh, look at the time! Gotta go... do that thing. You two have fun!” And poof, they’re gone like they’ve got invisibility cloaks.
So, if you spot these signs, just enjoy the show and know the interest is mutual.

In that situation the friend could have been doing literally anything. we all use are phones so much these days, especially at this age. The friend could have just received a message from a parent. anything. it depends on whether you actually observed the friend looking at you, get out her phone, and type while flicking her eyes between you and her phone, to constantly check if you were still there. if she did that, it is more likely she could have been letting the crush know you were there.

Also though, I don't think this would mean much because seeing a human being isn't crazy enough to be sending a whole message in most cases. seeing a friend's crush is more likely to be something the friend would say to the crush when they next saw each other in person, like "oh i saw ____ today in the (room/hall/wherever)" not something to send a whole message about. this is just personal experience though but from my view this isn't too much of a sign.

any more context would be useful !
