University choices

I’ve recently been struggling to find a uni option close to me (colchester) with a computer science and mathematics course and have come across Birmingham uni. But I hear conflicted feelings about Birmingham, is it really that bad? I’m eligible for the minimum maintenance fee and am getting minimum help from parents so places like bristol with give a much poorer quality of living but is it still worth looking at those places over Birmingham?

What has this got to do with Birmingham?
Assuming you're talking about University of Birmingham and not Birmingham City University, I'm not sure what you've heard about it that's conflicted? I live pretty near by and all I hear about it is that it's pretty decent, the open day was nice and all. Rankings are pretty good as well, 7th in the UK for comp sci if I remember correctly, and it's one of my top choices as I am applying for comp sci for next year. Obviously I can't be that helpful since I'm not actually a student there, but what were your particular concerns?
I’m aware the unis is great but from where i live (greater anglia) most people say birmingham (the city) is a reason enough not to go to the uni. The uni looks great however and i’ve placed it as one of my options but people around me are making me re consider. Can you let me know about your personal experiences with birmingham? i’d love to know
Sorry I took embarrassingly long to get back to this hope this is still helpful but I personally think the city of Birmingham is great! There's a lot to do, e.g. the library, symphony hall, the Bullring etc., great food places. It's quite multicultural, has a nice German market at Christmas, I really enjoy visiting. Of course, like any city has it's dodgy areas but on the whole I never hear much bad about it myself. What have you heard?
