How do you make extra money while in University

Hi!
Many people get part time jobs during term time to help finance their year, or, have a job to go back to during holidays. As well as standard part time jobs, it is worth looking into what jobs are available within your university. Roles like student ambassador tend to be more flexible, so this may be a good option if you are limited with time.

Hope this helps! Faye 🙂

Hey @mng43

You’re definitely not alone! As a student ambassador here at Kingston, I’ve found campus jobs to be a fantastic option. There are roles in the cafeteria, library, or admin support in different departments, and they’re great because they understand student schedules. Plus, you get to know people around campus, which is a bonus!

For off-campus work, nearby cafes, shops, and restaurants are usually hiring, and they’re pretty flexible with hours too.

And if working from home sounds appealing, online tutoring or freelance gigs can be a good fit. It’s all about finding something that works for you.

Let me know if this helps, and good luck finding the perfect fit 🙂

Hi there!

Some great answers so far!

While I was at university I had a hospitality agency job. They offered a lot of different types of hospitality jobs at a lot of different places and you could choose when and where you wanted to work. It meant that when I had time I worked more shifts but when I had a lot of work to do I didn't book myself on to as many. It was good because I could pick and choose when I wanted to work and for how long for as well as being able to choose places that were easy for me to get to on the bus. It's definitely something I would recommend looking into if you want a bit more of a flexible job.

I hope this helps😃

Hi there,

I have also found my job as a student ambassador to be a great job to have while studying. It is really flexible and you meet lots of other students too. Have a look at your uni and see if there are any campus jobs available as there are lots of other jobs usually available other than just a student ambassador.

Lots of my friends also work in bars or pubs as they are good hours for student as it is often evening or weekend work. Cafes and restaurants are usually popular too.

I would recommend when you move to uni to have a look around town and take your CV into some places that are hiring as I know a few people who managed to get part time work this way!

I hope some of this helps!

How do you make extra money while in University

Hi @mng43,

There are multiple ways to earn extra money at university. This isn't essential for everyone based on individual circumstances. However, working part time is something most students do.

I worked for the last three years of my course, as during first year my maintenance loan was higher and it was just after lockdown so there wasn't much to spend money on. Looking into your university and finding out if they have content creators or student ambassadors would be a great start. This is a great way to earn extra money whilst it being flexible around your studies.

I worked part time at a restaurant mostly on weekends so my week was dedicated to my learning. Then during busier periods like Christmas or during reflection weeks I picked up extra shifts if I was able to do, whilst doing my coursework. Working along side university, also improves your time management and organisation skills for sure.

Hope this helps! 🙂
