audiology

I am considering doing audiology but am in a dilemma with choosing my A-level courses. I feel like bio-chem will be too much for me and I do not want to have to resit if I don't get the grades needed however choosing applied science limits the universities I can get into.
So can anyone who is studying audiology and did applied science give some tips and the universities you applied to?

I've just had a quick look through some audiology courses. Southampton, Leeds, Manchester, Aston & DMU all require just one science out of the three A levels and that science could be bio, chem, phys, maths or psychology. UCL is the only uni that requires two sciences - biology plus one other. All of them would accept a BTEC National Extended Diploma as an alternative qualification but it has to include science modules so Applied Science should be fine. A few unis won't accept Health and Social Care BTEC as it doesn't have enough science modules.

Hey there 🤗

It sounds like you're really giving this a lot of thought, and it's totally understandable to feel a bit stuck with choosing A-levels. Balancing what feels manageable with keeping your options open can be challenging!

Universities often have different entry requirements, so it might help to look into those. Absolutely, De Montfort University (DMU) could be an option, as it requires only one science subject. As for the university itself, DMU is well-regarded for its health sciences programmes and huge investments in modern facilities, with a focus on hands-on learning and practical experience, which is invaluable in fields like audiology. Moreover, I personally value DMU a lot for a massive career support it offers. DMU collaborates with local organisations to offer a wide range of placement opportunities but it also provides its own Internship Schemes for students. Finally, they have a great Careers Team that helps with figuring out your career pathway, looking for relevant experience alongside your studies, and creating job applications.

And remember, no matter which path you choose, there are always ways to achieve your goals in audiology 😁

I hope it was helpful 💪 Feel free to reach out if you have any questions 😉 You can also chat with me or other students directly through The Ambassador Platform.

Take care,
