Which country do you wish to study in? Would you be self funding or looking for funding assistance? Do you already have or are you working towards obtaining a Bachelor's degree in law? Are you seeking to study a specialist subject?

Entry to LLM programmes (and to Oxford's equivalent thereof, the BCL) is more or less competitive depending on which university you apply to, and in many cases you would need a first or a high 2.1 in your Bachelor's degree in order to obtain a place to study for an LLM. There are also some UK LLM courses which can be taken by those whose Bachelor's degree is not in law (this is an alternative to obtaining a PGDL with a view to training as a lawyer in the UK).

Most if not all universities which offer Bachelor's degrees in law also offer LLMs, usually obtained via a one year taught course which may include a dissertation. Some LLMs are quite specialised, others more general. There is no firm consensus as to which are the best law schools in the UK, and attempts to rank them usually end in disagreements, but a non-exhaustive list of examples of good law schools might include (in no particular order) Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, UCL, KCL, QMUL, Bristol, Durham, Warwick, Nottingham, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Edinburgh, and Glasgow.
