Learning ABRSM independently in gap year for undergraduate Music

Hey, I'm wondering how plausible it is to learn ABRSM grade 5 or 6 theory (ideally with a tutor) by September 2025, if I start now and dedicate serious time and effort to it. Is this an achievable goal? Do you think a university would be likely to grant a conditional offer to someone doing this?

I got a 6 in Music at GCSEs, but didn't study it in college (I got A*AB in some essay subjects). However since I was young I've been making music a lot in my spare time with DAWs, some guitar, and some classical/composed music. It's really been my passion for all my life and I could definitely evidence this, but I don't have much serious theoretical knowledge, and I also don't play any instrument seriously. I found some good unis that only require ABRSM 5 theory. I'm on a gap year looking to start in 2025, I have plenty of free time to devote. I would appreciate if someone could help me figure out if this is a done thing, how realistic it is, if unis will be on board with it, etc. Thanks :-)

Yes definitely! I self-taught myself music theory in Year 8 (sept 2019 to July 2020), and i think i must've started in jan-march and then sat it in august. i passed (75%) and almost beat my brother. I play flute, and at that point i was grade 5.

Definitely achievable, im not sure about conditional offer (in the sense that im literally in y13 and haven't even sent my ucas in)

100% grades are surprisingly easy I managed to teach myself grade 8 and above in around a year and a bit with no prior knowledge
