help? do I have a chance?

These are the potential courses that I am thinking abt applying to.
LSE:
BSc Accounting and Finance (req - AAA)
UCL:
BSc Economics (req - A*AA) (A* in Maths)
BSc Economics and Statistics (req - A*AA) (A* in Maths)
Imperial:
BSc Economics, Finance and Data Science (Req - A*AA) (A* in Mathematics)
Kings College London:
BSc Accounting & Finance: Req - A*AA (A in Mathematics)
BSc Business Management: Req - A*AA (A in humanities)
BSc Economics: Req - A*AA (A in Mathematics)
BSc Economics and Management: Req - A*AA (A in Mathematics and A in Social Science or Humanities)

These are all the Uni courses that I have shortlisted that I want to go to, and I know that I can only choose 5 on my ucas application.
I am currently in year 12, just starting my A levels, doing business, economics and maths. Would I be able to get accepted into any of these uni courses with pretty horrible GCSE results but great A level results. I am hoping that at a minimum I will get A*A*A, and most probably get A*A*A*. I know I am capable of these grades, and the recent assessments that I have done I have achieved A*A*A.
My GCSE results:
Maths : 7
English Lang: 7
DT : 7
English Lit: 6
Bio, Chem, Physics: All 6s
Geography: 6
Drama: 6
German: 4

I just procrastinated throughout gcses and barely revised the night before for these grades. Would I be able to get into any of my desired uni courses that I have shortlisted or will I be rejected?
If I dont stand a chance, would taking as further maths during y13 help. Or resitting some gcses in the summer? Or doing the full further maths a level during a gap year then reapplying.
If anyone could give me some help then it would be greatly appreciated. (sorry for the long post)
You would need stellar A-levels to stand a chance, including Further Maths
im gonna be completely honest but since business and economics are overlapping subjects you will be at a disadvantage. on lse's website, it states that business isnt a preferred subject and will not consider business and econ together only one of them. economics is a preferred subject. as your gcse grades are lower compared to the average applicant, i dont think lse would give u an offer imo.
for ucl and imperial, althought it doesnt say on their website that they dont allow business and econ, i think you would still have the same experience as you are competing with students doing 4 or 5 different a levels, all A* predicted, and all 8s and 9s at gcse. so, i dont think ucl and imperial would give u an offer asw.
for kcl, it doesnt say anything about econ and business but since the courses u listed are such competitive courses, you would have to write an excellent personal statement, exceed the entry requirements to make up for the lower gcse grades. so, you may have a chance at kcl.
overall, i think you should consider applying to unis with lower entry requirements and make kcl your aspirational choice. the recommended way to apply is usually 1 'aspirational' uni, 1 uni with your year 13 predicted grades, 2 with your year 13 mock grades and 1 safety. i am in year 13 and was predicted A*A*A* as my aspirational grade, A*AA as my realistic predicted grade and my mock grade was AAA. so i applied to 1 uni that was A*AA, 3 that were AAA and 1 that was ABB. the point is that the unis you've listed are all incredibly competitive and it would be risky to apply to all 4. obviously you are in year 12, so you have plenty of time to figure this out. best of luck

forgot to mention that my ucas grade was A*A*A*
if you were applying to oxbridge [specifically oxford], i would have said you probably dont really stand a chance. however, except for Imperial really, gcses arent as important. that being said, you might be better off emailing the universities individually ad asking - particularly as you got a 7 in maths, still a great feat, but competitive maths courses in competitive london unis might be looking for someone with more 8/9 grades.

also no offence, its great that you're confident and motivated to succeed in a-levels, but getting minimum A*A*A is HARD - dont make yourself feel bad for not achieving those grades. if i were you, i would start properly thinking about top unis only after your 1st/2nd set of mocks.

appreciate the response, I realised that I didn't stand a chance at oxbridge due to my GCSEs, but yeah I'll seriously start considering uni options after a couple sets of mocks.

appreciate the honesty, after adding this post, I realised that I do not stand a chance at getting into LSE due to them not allowing the economics business combination, so my main aspirational unis are KCL and UCL. Thanks for the reply

I've made sure that none of these courses require further maths? but I know that I need stellar A level results.

The fact that Further Mathematics is not a requirement means little - it's not a requirement because some state schools do not offer FM and it would therefore be discriminatory to make FM a requirement.

It isn't like that, because for every mathematical courses for the same Unis, they have stated that Further Maths is required, or whether it is preferred. But in these courses that I have listed, I have checked on the Uni's respective website whether it states further maths is either required or preferred.

Don't believe them! The websites are in the business of encouraging applications, not in the business of telling the truth.

why would the official university websites lie to applicants??? why would they mislead people into applying when they dont stand a chance. they might not be the nicest but they arent evil and im pretty sure they are not going to mislead applicants about what they are looking for in applications.

Because they are terrified of accusations of discrimination against students who have had fewer opportunities. They are generous in their evaluation of students from less advantaged backgrounds and fierce with those who have had great opportunities.

what the hell are you on about?! I got a 2 in maths and a 3 in english, i have to retake those. You cooked a meal here but to be honest, I think you should try to get a subject in that you know you'll like or that has high value in terms of work. For example, finance has high value, science does, maths does. Thats as much as i can say tbh, im new to y12 as well.

Hi @elixirty83,

Hope you are doing good.

Your A Level grades are definitely important so if you can achieve a minimum of ABB, you should be able to secure an offer with us if you are interested. You don't need A Level Maths or Economics either as your first semester is more of a catch-up period for everyone.

For GCSEs', we consider majorly Maths and English (minimum of C) which you cleared that requirement.

Having a solid personal statement, references and if applicable, work experiences would also help your application.

You can also check out the other Economics variations we have, you can visit Economics Undergraduate Courses - Swansea University.

Worst case scenario will be if you are unable to make the required A Levels grades. In that situation, you may have to apply via clearing or consider a foundation year.

If you have any other admissions related query, you are welcome to have a live chat with the admissions team here, Ask Us Live - Swansea University.

Wishing you the very best in your A-Levels!
