can i get into architecture with these grades and subjects

hi everyone, to explain my situation i am doing a third year in college this year, having finished two alevels last year (3D Design at a B and english literature at a B) and currently finishing alevel economics with an addition of core maths. i have been researching many universities for architecture and have been met with most asking for a baseline of AAA, i am hoping to get an A in economics and im fairly confident that i will achieve an A in core maths (im not sure if most universities count this) so hopefully my end result will be ABB and A in core maths. will i still have a chance in getting a conditional offer from any university from this list:
University of Sheffield AAA

Loughborough University AAA

Cardiff University AAA-AAB

The University of Edinburgh A*AA

Lancaster University AAA

University of Nottingham AAA

UCL (University College London) AAB

Newcastle University AAA

University of Liverpool AAA

University of the Arts London AAB

Manchester School of Architecture AAA

Oxford Brookes University AAB

Cardiff Metropolitan University 120-128 tariff points

Bristol, University of the West of 144 tariff points

University of Plymouth 104-136 tariff points

Queen's University Belfast AAA

Nottingham Trent University 120 tariff points

University of Kent ABB

if not do i have a chance getting in through clearing? thank you.
Hi Amoya,

Thanks for reaching out and its great to hear you're looking into going into architecture. The general advice when applying to uni is to:

Prioritise the course content/modules

Try to visit the choices you are considering seriously

Absolutely go for one aspirational choice (e.g. one of your AAA-AABs as there is a chance you may get an offer depending on how competitive the course is that year)

Make sure you apply to 2-3 with requirements pitched at your PGs (i.e. your ABB)

Have an insurance choice which has requirements 1-2 grades below what you are predicted, just in case

I think if you put in a good personal statement and be sensible with your choices then you have a great chance of making a competitive application and receiving offers particularly from the unis asking for ABB.

However as your list is quite long I'd encourage you to shortlist a few unis with a range of required grades you'd genuinely be interested in applying to and then calling or emailing their admissions teams to ask if they would accept your qualifications, including core maths.

Its very difficult to tell whether architecture will be in clearing or not because the popularity of the course varies a lot year by year!

I hope this helped a little bit - best of luck 🙂

Good afternoon @Amoya111,

Architecture is a great course!

It is difficult to decide where to apply for and whether you will be accepted. I always recommend that you apply for the university you want to get into and have a reasonably close grade, as applications are assessed individually at the University of Reading. Therefore, every student could have a chance to get in. This doesn't guarantee a place but will give you a chance. You can find more information on the application process here.

The Univerity of Reading Architecture course has entry requirements of ABB, plus a portfolio; if you are taking an EPQ, you will receive two offers: our standard offer and an alternative offer of BCC in your A-level subjects on the condition that you achieve a B in your EPQ. Further information on this can be found here.

Also, here is the link to the course description for architecture.

If you have any questions about the University of Reading, please let us know, and we will do our best to answer them.

All the best,
Ella

Hi @amoya111

The Architecture course here at Kingston has grade requirements of UCAS tariff points: 128-144, and a portfolio.

This is a great course offered at our Kingston School of Art campus, with open access to our workshops. This includes our 3D workshop which would interest you following your previous studies. Here is the link to look into our 3D workshops closer: https://www.kingston.ac.uk/faculties/kingston-school-of-art/about/facilities/3d-materials-workshop/

I would definitely recommend coming to one of our open days to have a tour round and to talk to students and lecturers as this is what persuaded me to choose this uni 2 years ago!

I hope this helped

Hi there,

Glad to see you are considering Cardiff. Unfortunately I cant advise exactly on admissions, but you can contact them here: https://www.cardiff.ac.uk/help/contact-us/applicants.
Or alternatively, there is clearing you can try to go through.
I know Architecture in Cardiff is really good (im working in the Welsh school of Architecture now for my masters and im very impressed).
Hope this helps, good luck, and let me know if you need anything else,

Just to note - Lancaster requires AAB and Cardiff Met's architecture course isn't RIBA validated. Have a look at the following thread for a list of all the RIBA-approved courses (or those with candidate status) and their entry requirements:

https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7536742

With ABB, I would advise you to pick one aspirational choice at AAB, three at ABB and one safe choice at BBB. UCL is very competitive and probably the most creative course, so you will need a very strong portfolio if you want to apply. Lancaster or Oxford Brookes might be worth considering for your apsirational choice as they have both been in clearing in recent years (though that doesn't mean they will be this year). There is a long list of unis requiring ABB/128 UCAS points if you look at the link I have given above.

Hey @amoya111,

I hope you're keeping well. 🙂

Firstly, please do let me say congrats to your brilliant grades, and also your initiative. You seem to be doing really well so far, so you should be proud about that.

Secondly, noone knows for sure at this stage how clearing is going to look (not because it's a tough cohort this year, but more because no-one has been able to predict the future yet), but we have seen for basically every single year clearing spots at our uni opening up, as well as at others. So, I would be willing to bet there'll be clearing spots this year too - and I'm not a betting man! Hopefully, that'll give you some comfort though.

As for getting a conditional offer, again, I think you're in a very solid position. I would maybe recommend though to go for a safe, insurance choice as well at the BBB level or below for a uni that you'd still be happy to go to, just in case the world happens to turn upside down, but as mentioned, your in a solid place right now. So congrats!

Now, I’d love to encourage you to take a closer look at the University of Kent! Please let me (shamelessly) say that we have a fantastic architecture program focusing on creativity and innovation, and the campus is incredibly cozy (especially at this time of year), with an incredibly supportive and welcoming department. Plus, the community here is amazing—you’ll find plenty of opportunities to get involved and meet like-minded people at a plethora of societies, or across different subjects.

With your predicted ABB and that A in core maths, I can say that your in a very comfortable spot with Kent! Further, the admissions team here at Kent absolutely love it when prospective students are able to demonstrate ambition, passion, and commitment, all of which I've seen from what you've told me. If you can continue to demonstrate this enthusiasm for architecture in your application, that will most certainly help you! More specifically, something akin to a portfolio to show off your observational skills, creative thinking, and anlyses of colour, shape, and form, is something we're looking for, so it would be a fantastic opportunity for you to showcase your unique perspective and artistic vision. We would love to hear about you refelcting on your journey and highlighting your strenghts, and it would make your application stand out even more (and not just for us 😉 )!

And again, if things don’t go exactly as planned, don’t worry! Clearing can be a great way to find the right fit for you, and Kent is always a fantastic option 😉 (okay I'll stop being shamless now).

I’ll always be here rooting for you, so keep at it!
Wishing the best for you.

Kind regards,

David 🙂

Hi Amoya,

I'm pleased to hear you are considering studying Architecture and that University of Nottingham is on your list of interest. We have quite a few architectural courses, so,,not knowing which you would be interested in, by way of an example, BEng Architectural Environmental Engineering - K240/K24B - The A-level entry requirement is AAB-ABB (depending on subjects taken). A level or Higher Level (IB) maths is essential. Other preferred subjects (with requirement of ABB) which I think you are taking are design and technology and economics. Otherwise, offer is AAB. For a more definitive answer, you are welcome to complete an enquiry form on our website and we'd be happy to advise.

I would recommend that once you have narrowed down your choice of uni's, you look around the areas of those you are interested in, to get a feel of the place - where you feel you would be happy to live and study.

Hope this helps ☺️

I think the OP was asking about the BArch Architecture course (K100), which requires AAA and no specific subjects.

thank you! i've been looking at university of kent so this really helps.

Haha, I'm really glad to hear that! Thank you.

If you happen to have some spare time, I'd love to invite you to our Open Day which is happening on the 16th of November, where you'd be able to get a feel for the campus, with all the trees and critters about, as well as get to talk to our lecturers and current students. All in all, be able to get a nice feel for the place which all the stats and data might not be able to fully convey. It'd be great to see you here, and just for the record, we usually do give some free snacks to those visiting (last time it was fresh, warm donuts), but I'm not trying to bribe anyone 😉 .
Seriously though, it would be fantastic to see you here if you can make it. And even if after coming you decide not to choose Kent, then the Open Day was still able to help you out with finding out what's the right fit for you!

Anyways, hope this helps!

Warm regards,

David 🙂

Hello there,

I hope you are well.

We are happy to see that Cardiff Met is one of the universities that you are interested in.

ABB is equal to 128 UCAS tariff points and there is no subject required for the entry requirements, so it is fine for you to apply to our BA (Hons) Architecture Degree - Cardiff Metropolitan University.

We recommend you apply via UCAS and then we can assess the application for you. If you meet the entry requirements, we will invite you to attend an interview.

Our next open day is 9th November. Please come along and have a look around the campus: Open Days - Cardiff Metropolitan University - Study in Cardiff, Wales, UK

You can drop us an email on [email protected] if you have any further questions.
