Living cost

Im planning to apply to the dmu for 2025 january intake,, can anyone let me know what would be the living cost in leicester city
In first year my rent was approx. 126/pw and in second it was 99/pw. Both were bills included (I think in 2nd year we did our own wifi, which was like £25/pm split between 4 of us)

I lived near the big Lidl both years and studied in Bede Island next to the Tesco Express so my general food costs were low, like <£40 a week probably. I avoided spending money on anything major. I didn't really buy new clothes etc. I think my biggest purchase during uni was new glasses frames.

I lived very cheaply in Leicester but I didn't do many social activities and wasn't a drinker really. I went to Uni in covid so there wasn't much on. I didn't have the opportunity to spend money on freshers events etc.

I lived on about £530/pm, plus occasional student ambassador work like open days (maybe £50/pm max). I lived very frugally at uni to avoid having to work while studying. Got away with it. But I was holed up in the library/computer labs basically all of the time. Living costs are very lifestyle dependent.

Any advices to find affordable accommodation ( are those meals included )
I don't think there's any accommodation that does meals at DMU. The cheapest halls is Bede Hall. I lived in Liberty Park. I found living in shared housing in 2nd year was cheaper than halls as well.

Hiya!

Unfortunately, we don’t offer catered accommodation—all our student housing options are self-catered.

Currently, the most affordable option listed on our webpage is Bede Hall, with standard rooms available at £95.00 per week. On the other end, the most expensive option is Newarke Point, where premium en-suite rooms are priced at £158.55 per week.

If you're looking for alternatives, there are other accommodations near the campus and in the city centre that may be better to suit your budget and preferences.

For more details, I’ve included links to our DMU accommodation webpage and the 24/25 pricing and contract information below.

Hope this helps
