Struggling to answer past paper questions

For me this mostly applies to chemistry but I have mocks in a week and I've been revising and I thought I understood the topics. However when it came to doing a past paper I literally could barely answer a single question. What do I do now? I'm not sure where to start in order to effectively revise the whole of paper 1 by time my mocks come around. Its clear its a weaker point than I initially thought and I don't have much time left.

Hi, although I've not had this problem personally, I would recommend that you look through some past papers that either have model answers or look through them in tandem with the mark scheme for that paper. This should hopefully help you to understand how to answer the questions or to see what it's actually asking of you. If that's not really the issue, it's probably a case of actually recalling the content, in which case flashcards or mind maps might be the way to go.
If you're struggling to find resources to do this, have a look at the PhysicsAndMathsTutor website (it's got other subjects as well). You'll find past papers, mark schemes as well as flashcards and mind maps.
As a side note, don't worry too much about mocks this time of year because they don't really mean too much. I sat my GCSEs last year, and unless these results affect the classes, they only really reflect on the school and won't affect you so much. Around February time mocks are more important but they still don't actually impact your final grade. (Which is different at A-level, as an example, because those mock grades determine your predicted grades that go with your university applications.) Good luck and let me know if I can help any more. 🩷

Thank you for the advice! 😊 I've recently taken to doing a question then looking at the mark scheme to check if I got it right/where I can improve. Once I realised there was so little questions I was able to answer I figured I'd need to change tactics since its a lot of content. I think my main issue with chemistry really is just the memorisation, it's my weakest subject even though I tend to understand the content. I got a 5 last time which I'm happy with but I want to at least be confident that I can remain consistent.

I've started creating little "cheat sheets" during my study sessions now. They're just 1 A4 page for each overall unit.I've been watching a youtube video with the full rundown for paper 1 and been writing key points. If i don't understand something I go over the topic on cognito, I feel like its working so far as a refresher, just a bit time consuming but at least I'll have it for the real mocks.

The only reason I'm worried about these mock grades is since I'll be using them to apply to a scholarship, apprenticeships etc. I'm trying my best but there is only so much I can do whilst remaining sane 😂 its okay though.
