Mature student - fdsc nursing associate (March 2025)

Hi

Looking for some help!
I have previously studied:
Production - 2015 - 2016
Then changed course
Marketing 2016 - 2018

Dropped out due to not loving either.

I have had time to reevaluate my life and have decided I would like to become a nurse.
I am in the process of applying and have had my student finance approved for nursing. All is ok.

However, I’m starting to think I wont be accepted due to studying irrelevant a levels, etc.

It’s looking likely my only route in will be to study a fdsc nursing associate degree for 2 years, then enrol into adult nursing from there.

My question is, would my student loan be approved to go via this route (the fdsc?)
This will be at UEL, March 2025. Haven’t heard back from my first choice for adult nursing but it’s looking unlikely sadly :frown:

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi there,

Is this is a full-time or part-time course?

Thanks, Graeme

Hi,

It would be full time.

Many thanks

Hi Shc5,

You wouldn't be eligible for funding for the nursing associate course due to your previous study but as Adult Nursing is an Allied Health Professional exception course you would be eligible for funding for this regardless of your previous study.

Thanks,
Calum

You could consider a one-year Access to HE course in a science subject rather than the nursing associate degree:

https://www.accesstohe.ac.uk/about-access

Access courses are readily accepted by unis for healthcare courses and they are the 'usual' route for a lot of mature students who don't have the right level 3 qualifications.

Hi,

If there's any further queries, please let us know.

Thanks,
