University experience for urban planning

Could anyone tell me a bit about there experience at specific universities for urban planning? I’m looking into Sheffield, UCL and Reading and I’m wondering if the teaching was good?

I've not seen many posts from users about urban planning. It might be worth checking the uni websites to see if you can chat to current planning students through the unibuddy system.

Hiya,

While I cannot give you specific information about urban planning from myself, I would encourage you to visit the universities on open days so that you can go and visit the departments and hear more from faculty and students.

Sheffield Open Days - here is a link for the open days, if you are unable to make them, there are also online subject taster sessions that you can sign up for.

Hope that helps and let me know if you have any questions about university life or the city!

Hi there @Housemushroom ,

The University of Reading BSc Real Estate Development and Planning is a great undergraduate choice! Real Estate and Planning at Reading ranks 1st in the UK for Land and Property Management (Complete University Guide, 2025)! This is worth noting when making any final decisions.

The course at Reading has a great balance, with the programme matching the BSc Real Estate course for the first two years to build a strong foundation of knowledge. In the third year, you will specialise in development and planning before completing the degree. There is a strong emphasis on environmental and social issues involved in urban planning which is a great area of interest to become involved in. Here at Reading, we also have an amazing Careers team who will be able to advise you with all aspects of the career development process, including help with work placements, internships and other career opportunities!

If you would also like to chat with one of our student ambassadors, the link is here. They will be happy to help answer any questions you may have about the course itself! 🙂 Overall, the programme at Reading is a great choice. If you have any more questions then feel free to reach out, we are happy to help!

Best of luck,
Millie 🙂
