Will a B in nat5 ruin my medical application?

I’m currently in s5 studying higher physics, chemistry, biology, maths, and English and it’s looking like I will get all A’s, however last year I did 8 Nat5’s, I did Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths, Applications of maths, English, Computing, and Design and Manufacture. I got AAAAAAAB, with the B In computing. If everything else is perfect (personal statement, achievements and UCAT score of over 3000, 5 A’s at higher) then can I still get into Edinburgh or Glasgow uni despite this B?

Hiii I’m also doing highers and wanting to do med!! You will be absolutely fine I’m pretty sure Glasgows entry requirements for Nat 5 only wants Nat 5 English at a B. And Edinburgh wants B at chem, bio, maths and English at Nat 5 which you have definitely exceeded at.

Good luck with your highers and prelims!

Hey!

I have 5 friends who have applied for medicine this year.

From my knowledge, they all have As and Bs on national 5s, the important ones from my knowledge are chemistry, biology, maths and English. I’m not fully sure but that’s from my knowledge. In their highers they got all As or at worst one B.

My friends have got interviews from Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow. UCAT results were varying for all of them from 3000-2400 etc.

After chatting to them, they explained that when you get the grades required from you, most of the offer is up to your interview and personal statement. If you get an offer or not is not up to your interview and how well you do there, not if you have one B at national 5.

My best advice is, get your grades this year for highers, get your advanced highers and revise for your UCAT during the summer holiday and prior to it- every free period you have. Also finally, MAKE SURE you practice interview questions, do mock interviews and be ready.

You got this! Don’t stress yourself out.
