Data science after biomedical science?

I wanted to ask about career options after Biomed because I am currently looking into Data Science. It looks like you can go into masters degree or take online courses. I'm not sure if a background in science would help as it is more computer science based. I am currently at Manchester doing a Bsc in Biomedical science. My only computer science history is GCSE where I got a grade 7.
Hello,

Choosing Data Science after Biomedical Science is not a terrible idea, and your background will prove beneficial! Of course Data Science implies a great deal of computer science but your background in scientific research and analysis should be more than enough to get started.

You’re right; there are generally two paths forward: by enrolling in a Master’s program in Data Science or its equivalent or utilizing advance online courses and certifications.

A master’s program will deliver a clear schedule of study and further education in theory that will be beneficial if you are looking forward to positions in research or the specific areas of a field of expertise.

But with concerns to do with your hands-on experience and practicalities then online courses such as those offered in boot camps are ideal if you are looking for entry level positions.

As you already have biology background, you may want to think about statistical programming languages SUCH AS PYTHON OR R as these are common in biomedical science as well as DATA SCIENCE. As for the actual programming, a few basic courses in machine learning and data visualization should suffice to fill any gaps in one’s programming knowledge as well.

Good luck on your transition into the Data Science it really is a rather promising field especially for an individual with your diverse educational background.

Thank you so much. Would you advise me to undertake these online courses at the same time as pursuing my Bachelors right now or wait some time? And how does one usually end up getting a job in Data Science, ive heard about banks hiring them and maybe even NHS?
