What makes Russel Group Universities Better Than The Rest?

I see a lot of people saying they want to go to the university of .... because it is a russel group. But as a potential student for two of them, what would this mean? Would I get a better learning or is it something else?

I’ve applied to two Russell Groups. Personally I want to go to one of the Russells because the course content is more suited to my specific interests. But if I end up going to a non Russell, I wouldn’t be upset.
I think it’s down to the individual, some people prefer the course content, some like the ‘prestige’ of the university itself.

propaganda ?

Nothing, inherently.
Hi all,

Simple answer: nothing!

Whilst there are some amazing unis in the Russell Group, there are also plenty of equally good ones who are not - Lancaster, Loughborough, St Andrews, Bath. Its way more important for you to choose a uni based on the course content, location, reputation for your subject, and the 'vibe' of the place than RG status. Try to see past the RG label because being in that group does not necessarily mean those unis will be better for every subject.

Best of luck in your choices folks, whether they be Russell or non-Russell 🙂

RG is just a fancy marketing concept thought up by the 'older' Universities - it means NOTHING significant.
It certainly doesn't guarantee that you will enjoy the course more or like being at that Uni.
Go to Open Days, listen to presentations, look around, ask questions - and then choose the Uni where you will be happiest. It really is that simple.

honestly its not onle RG's its every where globally
education being ranked in itself is showing a problem to me in society like why does one uni have to be 'better' than the other?
shouldnt they all be treated as equals so theres no yk gap in education standards or somethin depending on the region ones based in ?
wouldnt it also lead to less non RG unis being invested in making it more difficult for people who cant affort be in the RG unis or couldnt go to the rg unis from pottentially having good knowledge for their employment skill opportunities or for their own strive for knowledge?
hell makes education less about academics and more of a competition when it shouldnt
its just astonishing this idea of people wasting soo much of thier time for a peice of paper that has a specific title which further reflects on other things that make no sence to me why we obsess over

sorry just half awake rn and just baffled yk

Why do people care about league tables, Russell Group so much?

Because Higher Education has become a commodity, but one that comes at a (more or less) fixed price - so people want the "best" they can get for their money

If you buy a product there is usually a correlation between price and quality - but the UK UG HE "market" is broken and that simply isn't true - 3 years at an elite uni will cost the same £30k as 3 years at anywhere else
