would i be allowed to miss school to go to a sociology conference?

i’m currently in year 13 and go to a sixth form, i was searching for events online i could go to and came across a sociology conference at UCL where my literal sociology IDOLS (louise archer and stephen ball 🙏) are gonna be speaking and i would absolutely love to see them, but it’s on a school day ☹️ i’d only be able to come into school for my first 2 periods.

my attendance is already kinda low (somewhere around 90%) but omfg i NEED to go to this conference, i know sixth forms allow you to miss a certain amount of days to go to open days but do you reckon i’d be allowed to miss school to go to this event? </3 it’s educational so surely there’s a possibility my school would say yes, right? 🥲

GOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But email your head of year asking for permission first. My head of year is allowing me to miss period 6 and 7 to go to a childrens nursing taster event.

My head of year would allow anyone to miss school or lesson if its anything university related and im pretty sure it should be the same for other head of years.

i’ve already got a meeting with him the day we go back to school after half term bcs i’m missing school to go to an insight day (need a permission slip signed), should i just ask him then? 😭 the conference isn’t til january
