LSE BSc Economics and Economic History (VL31) 2025 Applicants

Hi! I’m creating this thread to follow on from last years one, for all applicants for this particular course at LSE (though feel free to talk if you are applying for something similar).

Here we can discuss things like the application process, personal statements (only things like how much economic history we included but not specific details obviously), and our stats!.

I’ll start:

GCSE: 9999999988
IB: 42/45, 776HL (gap year student so already achieved!) with 7 in Economics HL, 7 in History SL, and 6 in Maths HL.

I think it’d be awesome to have a big-ish community where people can come to talk about this relatively niche course, so any contribution is much appreciated!

Yeah, I’d say mine was about 70% econ 30% econ history haha, plus my intro was a bit vague in hindsight and I wish that was better. I’m not sure about my chances of an offer tbh, could go either way. How about you?

ngl I just submitted my ucas today and the amount of econ history in my new ps is probably 20% but i think my interests in econ are very niche and I think the chances of me getting an offer are low too but I'll stay OPTIMISTIC!

I am planning to apply .
Predicted 4 A* ( Maths , Further Maths , Physics and Economics )
GCSE: 8 9’s and 3 8’s
My main problem is my PS . I applied for Cambridge pure economics and so my PS is all primarily economics and Maths . I talked about “The Great Crash 1929” one full paragraph in my PS . Will this be considered as economic history ? Will I have any chance for ‘Economics and Economic History’ or is there no chance at all with this PS ? Any views will be appreciated.

I’ve basically done the same as you to be honest! As long as you’ve linked the book to economic history specifically rather than just linking it to economics I’m sure you’ll have a chance.
How realistic is to get an offer from ‘LSE Economics and Economic History’ without studying History at A levels or GCSE ?

I’ve never seen any data on this but I’d imagine as long as your personal statement shows a really good interest in economic history (and an A* in another essay subject like econ) then it’d be fine

I applied for pure economics everywhere else and so my personal statement is primarily Economics . I have three main paragraphs in my PS . Two are related to Economics and one Economic History . I talked about “The GreatCrash 1929” one full paragraph in my PS and hoping this para will be considered as Economic History . Not sure if ‘greatcrash 1929 ‘will be given enough weight under Economic History .

ahahah exact same situation here, except gcses arent as good unfortunately. Applied Cambridge pure econ and pure econ everywhere else so have like a 50/30 split with econ and maths and then one paragraph on the great crash in 1929 and some analysis on some books about economic history.

Gcses were 99998877777
Alevel predicted A*A*A*A* + one A* achieved a year early.

i know Cambridge interview didn't go great, so just waiting on that rejected on the 29th so really hoping for LSE offer but just not quite sure whether I will get it or not because was not focused on that course (switched from econ because of tmua) from the beginning. Otherwise will go UCL but still would much prefer LSE I must say. Do let me know if you get any updates about LSE soon.
I can’t believe we’ve all written about The Great Crash 1929 😭😭😭

Did you already get UCL offer ? Congratulations
International student predicted A*A*A+A already achieved wrote about 35% Econ history but spoke mostly about economics of colonialism and Econ history in India. TBH I don’t have any hopes I’ll get an offer
