Taking car to Bristol uni?

So I’m 33 so will be in mature accommodation. I’ll be going to study vet nursing so will be able to catch the (free) bus down to Langford (rather than spending money on petrol).

I guess my problem is that I live 4 and a half hours away and trains are so expensive so I was hoping to have my little car with me. Or do I just leave it at home with my parents?

Hi there!

Whether you bring your car or not is completely up to you! I didn't bring my car when I first started university but ended up bringing it with me when I went back after Christmas. There are loads of things to consider when you think about bringing you car such as where the shops are, how often the free bus runs and where can you park near campus as well as the travel from home. I would also think about how much placement you are likely to be doing and how you would travel to and from that placement. Some placements can be a 20 minute drive or take over an hour on the bus. You can also leave you car at home until placement starts if you decide that you don't want to have it with you the rest of the time.

Whether yo bring you car depends completely on what you would prefer and you can always change your mind midway through the year.

I hope this helps😃

What has any of this got to do with taking a car to Bristol Vet School?

What do you mean by "mature accommodation"? What part(s) of Bristol are you going to be living in?

You may well find it difficult to find somewhere to keep your car. There's very limited on-street parking available in the areas around the university.

How often are you lilkely to be travelling home?

Regarding train travel, remember that mature students can get a 16-25 railcard which will save you a third on the cost of many fares; and if you book in advance you can take advantage of Advance tickets which can also save you money. (There's bit of extra admin involved in getting the railcard if you're a mature student, as you'll need to get the university to sign your application form -- see https://www.16-25railcard.co.uk/about-the-railcard/are-you-eligible/)
