UK Uni Tuition Fees with pre-settled status

hi!! I'm in a bit of a tough situation right now and would love if someone could clarify things for me

I have been living in the UK for 3 years with pre-settled immigration status (permission to live in UK till 2028) I was under the impression that to qualify for home fees I needed to live legally in the uk for 3 years (which I have). but now I'm hearing something about needing to also have settled status on top of living in the uk for 3 years. is this true? for the record I'm not an EU national.

if the answer is yes I need settled status to be a home student, meaning now I'm classed as an international student, then I guess the follow up question is do I qualify for a loan? because as far as I'm aware international students can't take out loans, and I can't exactly afford the £50k out of pocket.

what are my options here?

Hi Nova,m

It's up to the university you're attending whether you're charged home fees or international. This isn't the decision for Student Finance.

Thanks,
Claire

The OP is also asking if they are eligible for a loan.

Thank you. Can you please also confirm if you have any family members in the UK who hold full Settled Status? Thanks again, David

Hi there,

Thanks, just to clarify, do none of you have Pre-Settled as part of the EU Settlement Scheme.

Do you all have Leave to Remain for now?

Thanks, Graeme

hi,

Am I correct in saying that 'pre-settled as part of EU settlement Scheme' only applies to EU nationals who hold this immigration status? If that is the case, then no we do not have that as we are all Sudanese nationals.

We all have Leave to remain for now. (expires 2028)

Thanks!

Okay, based on what you've said you're not eligible for student finance from us at the moment, unfortunately.

To be eligible you need to have Settled Status, or Indefinite Leave to Remain.

So, if you get one of these at any point let us know since that could make you eligible then.

Thanks, Graeme
