Which Unis accept Psychology A-level for diagnostic radiography?

Hi I am a year 13 student who is considering taking diagnostic radiography at university. I have always wanted to work in the healthcare field but due to a grade mishap (my grade came one grade too low, sent it for remark, it came higher but it was too late to change courses) could not choose the subject i originally wanted for a level. (Biology, Chemistry and Psychology). I currently study Law, English Literature and Psychology and really want to do this course.

I cannot find many places that accept psychology anymore other than Salford or Cardiff University. If anyone has any ideas please let me know as i am so stuck.

DR unis that accept psychology: UWE Bristol, Exeter, Hertfordshire, Plymouth, Portsmouth (psych considered), St George's, Salford and Sussex (no subject requirements listed).

DR unis that don't specify the 'science' subject so worth emailing to find out: BCU, CCCU, Cumbria, LSBU and Teesside

Hello,

It is great to see that you are looking at the university options that you have in front of you.

As you have seen, yes we do accept Psychology as one of our required A-Levels needed to get onto our BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography course.Overall we look for 120 UCAS Tariff points and for that to include at least one science mandatory from physics, biology, human biology, chemistry, or psychology at grade B.

If Salford is an option you are seriously considering then that is great to hear. As a next step we would recommend attending one of our open days in order to get a feel as to what life is like as a student at our university. You can find out more about our Open Days here.

If you want to learn more about the course then check that out on our website here.

I hope this helps,

Hi there,

Glad to see you are considering Cardiff University! Its a great uni and lovely place to be a student, I've also just seen the course "Diagnostic Radiography and Imaging" is ranked 2nd in the UK under Medical Technology. If you are able to it would be great to come to an open day, I know in the medical subjects they often offer some interactive things, giving you examples of what you would be doing! We also have online webinars if you are unable to attend in-person.
Any other questions let me know!

Hi, I can see that there are no more in person open days this year so I will be attending a virtual one. Furthermore I was wondering if this course is applicable for UK students as when I added it to my UCAS it said home and Ireland students only but the website doesn’t specify

Hiya,

Ok great! Glad you will be attending one online, there will be some more in-person open days in 2025 if that's something you would be keen on doing. Home students is the same as UK students and to my knowledge Cardiff does not have any courses that require applicants to be from a certain country to apply. I would suggest maybe trying to chase this up with UCAS. Or if you think it is still a problem on our end, you can use this link to contact admissions who can help on the more technical side maybe.
Let me know if this helps!

@Urfave Be aware of the funding differences between healthcare courses in England and Wales if you apply for your finance from Student Finance England.

If you attend a uni in England, you will be eligible for tuition fee and maintenance loans from SFE, and then you can apply to the NHS Learning Support Fund (NHS LSF) for the additional annual training grant of £6,000 per year.

If you go to a uni in Wales, you can still apply to SFE for your loans but you won't get the NHS LSF. Alternatively, you can apply for the NHS Wales Bursary in return for a commitment to work in Wales for two years following graduation. However, the additional funding available from SFE to cover living costs is much less generous than what is available to Welsh students and it is likely that you would struggle financially.

Good point to bring up. There are slight differences for Welsh students and English students, I found this link quite helpful to explain it, and see the differences.
However Cardiff is quite an affordable city in comparison to many other cities in the UK, so the day-to-day costs can be lower on average as well.

Hope this is helpful, if you have any more questions regarding finances and funding let me know.

Thanks,

The link you provided doesn't refer to healthcare courses funded with NHS Bursaries. This can make a big difference if you are resident in England and choose to study in Wales. The additional funding available from SFE is currently capped at £2,670 for English students if they opt for the NHS Wales bursary. By comparison, a Welsh student could get up to £11,150 from SFW.
