LMA London - honest reviews please

Hi all. My daughter is set on studying Dance here as it’s very local & she got a good vibe when she went for the open day
Having difficulty in finding reviews and would welcome any insights before she signs on the dotted line

Just graduated from there from their acting and performance course , if you have other offers consider those ones more. They have a really good student support and have been really supportive with me specifically since I was expecting in my last year (had my daughter just after graduation) but like other people said they accept anyone , yes you can help people develop and nurture their talent but they accept people that don’t have it , people that do not attend classes (I’m not talking about people with a valid excuse) can still pass everything without being penalised for it and the teachers I believe are more friends than anything else which is good in a sense but sometimes they just can’t control the class. I had people throwing chairs at eachother for fun and being told nothing. I had classmates swearing in class to the professor and them saying nothing back. Plenty of absences from the tutors because they are in the industry themselves and only freelance at LMA so yes we as student are important but not as much as their own careers which is fair enough but if you want to get more of an education or improvement might be better going somewhere else. One thing I should say is that I got to try more stuff cause I was pushed to try different methods of acting as well as new things like voiceover with I found really perfect for me. However if you ask me if I could have done / figured out all that without going to LMA , the answer is yes I could have. Oh and yes classes are too big , big to the point that they can do for a whole year 4 different productions of the same show

Considering Spotlight say there should be no more than 22 students in a class to be eligible for Graduate membership, that's really bad.

we ended up with at least 25 per class for the year and I think it was like 3/4 classes

I would have to say I felt the same on the open day, modern, unique super ability to be creative.

Whilst I am a student here, I should state and make clear this university seems run by adolescence and not from a place of posture and maturity. Is very unprofessional, senior leadership lack communication and jump to conclusions to protect their own liabilities. I would have to say I do feel like there is so much room for growth at this University for professionalism.

Hi, I am currently on the musical theatre course at LMA and in the process of leaving. LMA ‘exaggerated’ a lot about what the course would be like. Our class sizes are far too big and the contact hours are a lot less than what we were promised. From what I know the dance course at LMA is the most successful. The tutors at LMA are all brilliant but they can feel inconsistent as they are mostly freelancers. I would just be sure to get as many opinions from current students on the dance course as possible before accepting. The tutors may not answer questions honestly and may over exaggerate in order to sway you. Hope this helps

How very odd. My post detailing what I know of LMA has been declined/removed. Might explain why you ca;t find many honest reviews.

Hmm

Quite a few years ago I was a member of a message board called Balletco. The Doing Dance section was mostly parents of full time ballet/dance schools and colleges. We all talked about our personal experience, the good and the bad.

However two schools started to threaten legal action against the board owners if they didn't remove negative posts. even if those posts were truthful. The "Big Four" (RBS, Elmhurst, Tring & Hammond never did this). We were all very concerned, after all being open and honest would only help potential students and we wondered what they had to hide. I knew a young person who was a student there and she had a dreadful time.

Then there was a scandal and that school closed down suddenly.

Organisations that cannot accept honest criticism in my opinion, usually have something to hide.

I was on the dance course and had an amazing experience there. The support for students is huge and the teachers are industry professionals themselves so they actually give current insight to what’s going on. They did wonders for my confidence and transformed the way I view myself as a dancer in such a positive way which I think is very rare to find in the industry. It’s very much a course where it’s up to you what you get out of it, you get out what you put in. If a student puts in a half effort and has poor attendance (for no valid reason) they won’t get the benefits of the course and thats not up to the staff to do that for them. If a student puts in 100% the teachers will give back 200% . That was my experience
