Does Uni of York have many northerners? Or is majority southerners?

Hi, I want to go to uni of york but i dont really like places dominated by southern accents because they mock me sometimes. Is York Uni a place that has diverse accents or does everyone just sound posh?

Hi,

I went to York and there is a real mix of people. I'm from the North as well and I felt very comfortable in York - I made friends with people from all over the UK and further afield 🙂

Like all Unis, there will a total mixture of people from all backgrounds, areas, countries etc.
And noticing other people's accents isnt actually a major pastime.
My youngest daughter has a similar worry (not sure why), I suspect the concern is about diversity and inclusivity - which most decent unis would (hopefully) offer these days

We have done lots of Open Days and I have to say York was definitely pretty diverse and down to earth - its currently her firm choice for 2025 entry.

Obviously unis further south have a different mix purely because of geography, cant say I noticed any lack of diversity at the ones we went to - ie Bath or Bristol. Exeter and to a lesser extent Warwick did have a slightly different vibe, but not overly so
