You could do foundation year, one of my friends are in a similar situation, but their predicted grades are too high for foundation

Hi @shaziab0001,

Here at Nottingham, as long as you have a 5 or above in both maths and English, then your other GCSE’s do not affect your ability to get an interview!

Pharmacy as a degree is definitely a challenging one, however if healthcare is something you’re interested in, then pharmacy would be a very good match. Pharmacist are getting more and more responsibilities every year in terms of healthcare services we can provide, recently the change of course allowing us to graduate as prescribers is opening many doors for us and where we might be needed in future.

The pay varies depending on which sector you go into and what band on pharmacist you are. During training as a pharmacist you will be on the band 5 pay of around the £23,000 mark, this quickly increases as you move up through the pay bands(if you do hospital pharmacy) with most pharmacists at band 7 receiving 45-50,000. Community pay is different and is dependant on what company you work for and whether or not you own the business yourself.

If you have anymore questions do let me know

Hi!

At Bath those results certainly wouldn’t hold you back as our entry requirements for GCSEs are:

GCSE Mathematics grade 4 or C

GCSE English Language or Literature grade 4 or C

As mentioned above, the role of the pharmacist is becoming increasingly significant within the healthcare system so it’s a great time to get into it. It’s also a very secure degree choice as it’s one of the few courses that (normally) leads directly into a profession.

The pay during the training year after graduation has now increased to around £28,000 for hospital work (or £32,000 for hospitals in London). The other main sectors, community and GP, have more variable pay in this year but it seems to be on average around £25,000. After qualifying the pay should increase quite significantly, especially as we will be qualifying as prescribers.

Let me know if I can help with anything else 😊

Lauren Pharmacy student, University of Bath.
