A level combo

Is art, sociology and computer science a good combo? I want to go into graphics/ related field in the future but is taking computer science without maths a good idea?

hey i’m in year 13 and i know loads of people who currently do com sci without also taking maths and if you want to go into graphics i doubt you need maths but maybe check that online and with unis for specific courses.

otherwise your a level choices sound good! they don’t necessarily need to complement each other- as long as you can get into uni/your next stage with what you are doing

i’m doing Art, Economics, music tech and history and loads of ppl tell me that it’s a weird combo- it doesn’t matter tho bc im doing what i enjoy and im planning on doing music performance /commercial music at university so it doesn’t matter what a levels im doing!

If you don’t mind me asking, how’s it going taking 4 a levels? Is it stressful?

hey sorry i wasn’t clear my music tech is actually an AS level so it’s worth half an a level and the way my school does it, i have half the amount of lessons split across two years and i take the exams at the same time as my other ones in may/june 2025

I don’t find it any more stressful tbh- i love music tech and am so passionate about it that all the lessons are so fun and it doesn’t ever feel boring or stressful to me, we barely get any homework aswell so it doesn’t really feel like ‘extra work’. The only thing that does impact me is the lack of frees i have compared to others

most people in my year will have 4 frees a week (6 hours) and i have 2( 2.5 hours) but with music lessons this means i actually only have 1 hour of frees a week which does mean i end up having to do all of my homework and revision at home

the main thing for me is that i am a very creative and artsy person- i was never going to give up my creative extracurricular clubs/commitments during a levels as those r the things that bring me joy -

tbh i dislike history and may be dropping this due to illness and mental health reasons and but if i had only done 3 a levels (without music tech) this would still be the same situation as i dont think the lack of a 4th subject would have helped as for me, that is the subject i love the most and causes me the least stress

sorry that was so long but i hope that vaguely helps

if ur thinking of doing a 4th i would only do it if you genuinely really want to but you can always drop it in the start of year 12 if necessary
