how does coursework get marked

Just wondering for edexcel how does coursework get marked. i know that the schools marks it but does it get sent off somewhere else, or do only a handful get sent off to be moderated? I’m unsure

What A level subject are we talking about? Art and Design? Drama and Theatre? English Literature?

Thanks. The coursework for History and English Literature work the same way.

They're marked in school, and if multiple teachers are involved then they're expected to "standardise" the marking to ensure that they're all marking to the same standard.

The school then submits the marks to Edexcel, who select those which they want to review. They don't reveal how they choose which examples they want to see, but it seems likely that they select some with low marks, some with high marks, and some in the middle.

They use these to "moderate" the schools marks against a national standard. The result of this may be that they lower or raise all marks for the school (even for that work they haven't seen) because they've determined that the school's marking is too generous or too harsh.
