Is this a good A level combo?

Is Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Latin a good A level combo?
I have been told by others that Latin is essentially useless for uni application since I don’t want to study classics at uni.
Should I choose Further Maths instead of Latin?
Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!
What do you want to study at uni? A general idea if you’re unsure
What do you think of these subjects based on your gcse experience so far?
Do you have predicted grades? How easy do you find these subjects to get those grades?
Do you need to take 4 subjects or are you able to take 3? Usually doing 4 isnt advised unless one of them is fm or everyone in your school takes 4 and its mandatory
Btw i do maths and physics so let me know if you have questions about those

I want to study a STEM based subject, but I’m not sure what yet
Based on my gcse experience I’d say I like Latin more than maths in general but there are some parts of Latin (like literature) that I don’t like that much
My predicted grade for both Latin and FM is a 9
Our school forces us to take 4 and then allows us to drop to 3 later on, but not really that many people drop to 3 in my school

Do you think Physics is really hard? I’ve heard the marks schemes are super harsh and some even say they would have never thought of putting that answer when they look at the mark scheme

As you’re unsure of what degree you’re interested in but you seem to be aiming for more physical sciences or engineering type fields then further maths would likely be a strong move. However if you’re maybe aiming more toward chemistry focused degrees then it’s less relevant. Maybe have a look through some different degree guides online and see which appeal or dont- just to give yourself even a rough idea. However, if you’re completely unsure that’s fine!
As you’re quite aware of what parts of Latin you do and dont enjoy, have you looked at the assessment scheme and the spec to see how much those are focused on?
I dont have any experience of physics marks schemes yet (apologies) as I haven’t had any tests back thus far. The content is a little challenging in parts but once you’ve understood it it’s not particularly hard to apply in my experience so far but questions can be a bit ambiguous i suppose. Sorry i cant be of much help but i do enjoy the course and its so far not been too stressful in terms of content management or homework for me (although this will vary ofc).
If you are aiming at any sort of STEM degree, FM will be more useful than Latin.
However, you need to a) look at the entry requirements for the degree subjects that interest you,
and b) think about whether you will enjoy either FM or Latin more, and where you are likely to get the highest grade.

Thank you for the insight!! I researched some courses I find interesting and saw that for some, but not all, FM is ‘useful’ or ‘recommended’….but I’m still unsure if I really want to spend so much time on maths

To be honest i usually get better grades if my teacher is better (i.e. their notes are better/ teaching is easier to understand ) I think the Latin teachers are better at my school, but there’s a 1/3 chance of getting that one horrible Latin teacher. And there’s a 1/4 chance of getting that one horrible further maths teacher but the other ones aren’t quite that good either.

You dont need to make your final decision now- maybe leave it until you’ve had more experience of exams and stuff. I considered history a level for quite a while but after my year 11 mocks that sealed i wanted to do a different subject instead (it wasn’t one i was set on but this confirmed that it wasn’t really the subject for me revision style wise!)

Solid combination. If you want to study physics or maths at uni, FM would be more useful than Latin, but at the same time, it’s more important that you study a subject you genuinely enjoy. FM A level is very enjoyable, and it pairs well with your other 3 subjects. For context, I absolutely hate maths but really like FM. Physics is quite difficult, but fun if you enjoy the subject.

Another thing to keep in mind is that many people do change their degree/career options in sixth form and Latin possibly keeps your doors a bit more open if you decide you don’t want to do STEM after all, or perhaps a joint course, etc.

If you are currently getting the same grades in further maths and latin, then which do you enjoy most out of the 2?
If you enjoy it more, then you will end up doing better in it and are less likely to get bored of it.
Latin might also be a nice change from your other science/maths based subjects.

FM>Latin.
Do Latin not Further Maths, you won't need FM for entry into university and it's good to have a break from science subjects.
Do Latin! If you enjoy it, it’s honestly something really cool to add to an application IF you can spin it to be relevant - I know you’re obviously not applying yet, but you can relate the logical rules and stuff.
At GCSE I preferred Latin language to lit, but now at A level I’ve totally switched around. Lit is WAY easier than lang now, so I’d recommend checking the spec and seeing if it’s smth that interests you?

Yes do further maths instead of latin. From what I can see it seems you are wanting to take a STEM related path for uni so further maths will be very beneficial. STEM departments/unis really don't care about people doing more a levels just for the sake of it. Now if you are an absolute latin genius then by all means do it but don't let it get in the way of your chances of getting into the uni subject you want.
