Safety of International Students in Bath: A Personal Experience

As an international student living in Bath and studying at the University of Bath, safety has always been a top concern for me, especially coming from a different cultural background. Fortunately, my experience here has been overwhelmingly positive, and I’d like to share why Bath is considered one of the safest cities in England for students from all over the world.
Bath is consistently ranked among the safest cities in the UK, and my personal experiences align with this reputation. The city’s peaceful atmosphere, low crime rates, and welcoming community make it an ideal place for international students. During my time here, I’ve often walked home alone at night, even after 9 or 10 pm, returning from my part-time job. I’ve never encountered a situation where I felt unsafe or uneasy, which is a huge relief, especially as a student navigating a new country and environment.
On campus, the University of Bath prioritizes student safety with well-lit paths, a reliable security presence, and 24/7 support services. The university also fosters a close-knit, multicultural community where everyone looks out for one another. This strong sense of community contributes to the overall feeling of safety on campus.
While there were recent reports of unrest in some parts of the UK, Bath remained relatively calm. Even during times when the news highlighted protests or riots elsewhere, the city’s peaceful nature prevailed, and I personally didn’t experience any disturbances. Bath has always had a reputation for being more laid-back, and that certainly holds true in practice.
In my opinion, Bath offers the best of both worlds: a beautiful, historic city with a modern university and a strong sense of security. For international students, this makes it an ideal place to study, explore, and feel at home.
If you’re considering studying in the UK and safety is a priority, I can confidently say that Bath is one of the best cities you can choose.
