Not understanding SFE maths

Hi.

I am a student who lives away from parents and studies outside of London.

Due to my partner's income, I was awarded the max maintenance loan of over £10,668.

I am also eligible for the max special support loan of £4,327.

In total, this should be £15,000.

However, I'm being paid £11,668.

According to the vile man I spoke to at SFE just now, I am now only being awarded 7,668 (or thereabouts) for my maintenance loan, with the SSL on top.

This doesn't sound right to me at all and I don't understand how this has been calculated.

Hi GrouchyStudent,

The Special Support Element is not a separate product added on top but is part of the maintenance loan so this figure you have quoted is correct.

Thanks,
Calum
