Hey there,
I hope you're keeping well! 🙂
It's great to see you taking a closer look at our uni! 😀
Thankfully, I can tell you that Kent has a really strong Computer Science program, well-regarded for its comprehensive curriculum, research-led teaching, and emphasis on practical skills, all of which become valuable in the tech industry. The school actively works with students on developing employability, offering career support and internship opportunities.
Regarding placements, while it's true that the job market will vary for everyone, Kent at least has a dedicated Employability Team within the School of Computing. They help connect those students that want further bolster their network with industry contacts, but also provide workshops on a variety of areas (interviewing, psychological tests, meetings, events, questioning and building rapport, etc.), and also offer resources to boost placement success. Many of our students do secure internships or placements, but it often depends on individual effort as well as some luck, but making use of networking opportunities and participating in career fairs or events hosted by the university never hurts, and there'll always be an opportunity to partcipate in one here.
On top of that, Kent has a stunning campus with amazing green spaces and a vibrant student community, which makes it a really cozy and comfortable place to study. You’ll also have access to dedicated academic and study support to help you get the most out of your time here. There’s a great balance between academic guidance and practical work support, so that we can set you up to succeed in both your studies and career journey.
If you happen to have more questions, rather than ask here (which don't worry, I'd love to respond 😉 ), why don't I instead invite you to visit us on our Open Day on November 18th? We'd absolutely love to see you here, and even if you decide not to choose us as a selection after coming, the experience will hopefully have helped you in understanding what things you're individually looking for. Regardless, as mentioned, we'd love to see you here, and it'd be a great chance to ask questions in person!
Best of luck with your university search!
I'm rooting for you!
Warm regards,
David 🙂
