southampton or solent

I want to study computer science next year and I’m wondering whether UoS or Solent would be the better choice? Thank you :smile:

I think most people would consider University of Southampton to be "better" than Solent University, and would apply to Southampton if they had the grades (for Computer Science, they ask for A*AA including mathematics).

However, that doesn't mean Southampton is necessarily better for you as it depends on what you're looking for in a university, or in a Computer Science course.

Certainly University of Southampton. It has a significantly better reputation for research and ties with industry.

Hi,

I would recommend you visit the universities to decide which place will be right for you. At UoS, we have one more open day on Wednesday 27 November 2024. If you can't make this date, you are free to visit the university any time and walk around campus. We also have offer holder days in early 2025.

I am glad to see you are considering studying at Southampton Solent University! Like others have said, both Universities have a unique offering and visiting both may help you decide. Our next undergraduate open day is coming up on Saturday 30th November (you can see the full details on our website here) during the day you can also see our facilities and meet course leaders. If you live outside of Southampton we offer a travel voucher scheme as well 🙂
