Student finance eligibility on a 10 year route settlement visa (private life route)

Hi I am inquiring to know if i would be eligible for student finance with given circumstances:

I am 22 years old and have been in the UK since 2021, so it has been over 3 years. I came to the UK on a family reunion, my mother, who has a refugee leave to remain for 5 years. I was 19 at the time of the reunion application, so I was given a 10-year route visa due to my age, but when my mother claimed asylum, I was 17 years old living outside the UK. My brother, who came to the UK in the same family reunion application, had a successful application from student finance. Am I Eligible for Student Finance?

Hi there,

When would the course start? Do you have limited leave to remain? Do you mean your mum now has settle status in the UK?

Thanks, Drew

My course began in September 2024, and yes, I have a limited leave to remain on a 10-year route; I have already completed three years, and I have seven years left to apply the indefinite. My mother is a British overseas citizen she also has a limited leave to remain as a refugee for five years, next year she can apply for the indefinite visa. Am i eligible?

Hi there. Were you under 18 years of age when the application for asylum status was made by your mother? Thanks, Leah.

Yes, I was 17 years old and living in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, when my mother applied for asylum in the United Kingdom.

Hi there, Based on the information you have provided you will be eligible for funding. You will need to complete the application form for this to be assessed. Please also send any required evidence. Thanks, Angela
